Tuesday, 20 June 2017 15:11

Inspired by the #illridewithyou movement on social media, Paper Planes Collective's upcoming exhibition aims to celebrate diversity and promote social inclusion.

Through photography, the exhibition will explore themes such as race, religion, gender, sexuality, disability and age through images capturing that aim to celebrate 'diversity and promoting social inclusion'.

My image 'iloveyou' is from the 'fillingtheairwithwords' series with my narrative...

Hearing loss. A disability? No. Deaf gain. An enhanced society benefitting from the widest variety of experience, perspective, understanding. 'Deaf individuals experience a host of visual-tactile processing acuities that have the potential to provide insights into the wider practices of say, architecture, filmmaking, video game design, bilingual education, monitoring surveillance videos and engaging in prolonged eye contact.' (Dirksen Bauman, Ph.D. and Joseph J. Murray, Ph.D.) Sign language a visual beautiful language learnt as any other. Not a poor substitute for 'heard' speech. Beautiful words dancing in space, filling the air. A healthy world needs diversity. Those who are Deaf enhance our world.
